Kanso Architects: A Monthly Briefing on Architecture & Design

The name "Kanso" is taken from the 7 principles of Japanese aesthetics which is Kanso / Accessibility (簡素). By definition (or at least in a the main sense) Kanso is when things are expressed in a simple, natural manner. Kanso helps us to think not in terms of decoration but in terms of clarity, the kind of clarity that may be achieved by removing non-essential stuff.

Messaging Menu:
Communicate the architectural subject of the feature article.
Organize the editorial content with images and the newsletter's table of contents.
Refer to the client's core activities: (young contemporary architects) building contemporary, modern, style of construction and looking for the current trend of architecture, while taking useful knowledge in every page of Kanso.

Beauty is Never Enough (midterm team project)

Idea: Aesthetics standard has changed over-time; one of the most powerful source is the media. We are interested in manipulation of beauty especially trough altered photos and how people's perception is influenced by the images they see to determine what is perfectly beautiful.

Purpose: to open viewer's mindset or perception on the manipulation of beauty that the media creates. To wake them up to reality.

Concept: We create an image of the mainstream print media (cover of fashion magazine), then openly use a collage form of manipulation to depict the use of photo-manipulating software.

Here are the alternatives based on personal ideas. We finally used (indra1) to explore.

the inspiration and concept of the character is based on Miguel Covarrubias's illustration of Balinese woman, which appeared on Vanity Fair magazine (c. 1924).

Ni Kahyangdari:
Ni, in Balinese society refers to female.
Kahyangdari was taken from two Indonesian words: Kahyangan (heaven;kingdom of the Gods) and Bidadari (daughter from the heavens;graceful woman)
